NSS

About

The National Service Scheme is established on the base of the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of Nation. Idea behind this was to create interest in youth & involve them in their social responsibility. On September 24, 1969, the Union Education Minister Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao, launched the NSS programme in 37 universities covering all States, it was suggested by Dr. Sarvaplli Radha krishnan, the Dy. Prime minister and Dr. C.D. Deshmukh, Chairman of U.G.C. in 1969. Aimed at developing student's personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community linkage.

At national level, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India is the nodal authority, which works with state-level NSS cells. State-level NSS cells are responsibility of the respective state governments. Within states, each university has University level NSS cell under which institutions (schools and colleges) based NSS units operate. Most government and government-aided institutions have volunteer NSS units. Institutions are encouraged to have NSS volunteers. Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers on its roll spread over 298 Universities and 42 (+2) Senior Secondary Councils and Directorate of Vocational Education all over the country. From its inception, more than 3.75 crores students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities.

N.S.S. Unit:
N.S.S. Unit was set up on the campus in the year 2004. Under the banner of N.S.S. we organize some social welfare and awareness activities inside and outside the campus which are beneficial for the overall development of the students and the society as a whole. The students from their association with N.S.S. (as N.S.S. volunteers) learn several things about community living. They develop a sense of social and civic responsibility, identify the needs and problems of the community and involve themselves in practical problem solving. Students can acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes too.

With the grant received from Gujarat university, we undertake two types of activities inside and outside the campus:
